Ok so here’s the deal. I’ve got a one week vacation and weekends to do some bicycle “touring” (due to a full time job). My current dream is to carry a Hennessey hammock (I already own), as few clothes as possible, lots of water, a little food, perhaps a few electronics etc. I’m gearing to do stealth camping as it will be the cheapest but I have no bicycle to do this.
The bike I desire has the following:
-Steel Frame Only
-Steel Fenders (Or braze ons to add steel fenders)
-Triple Chainring
-Mountain Bicycle Gearing
-Braze ons for front and back racks (preferably already included w/ bike)
-Drop Handlebars *without* combination brake/shifters
-Pedals and Kickstand included in bike price desirable
-Prefer a black or green bicycle color (but does not have to be)
What are the *cheapest* bicycles I can do this on without breaking the bank? (In my case breaking the bank means spending more than $1200 on the bike)

i have a diamondback sorrento 2007 and i can wheelie it in a lower gear but cannot find a good gear so that i can wheelie it whilst moving about running/jogging speed. Any ideas for the best gear?
lowest gear doesnt work because you cant pedal fast enough
It started out with me and my dad. We were in his car and it was sunset. We parked in a parking lot near a mountain and my dad said that we had to hike the mountain to get to a house on the mountain. I refused and all of a sudden I find myself at school. It was still around sunset. I walked to my math class and my math teacher said that we were going on a field trip. So everyone filed out of class, but for some reason, everyone was going faster than me (or I was going so slow…). Once I got out of the class everyone was already downstairs (my math class is on the second floor) and me and a few others were taking their time down the stairs. Once I got down. A group of my friends offered if I wanted to go ride with them in their brand new van. But for some reason, I declined and I wanted to ride my bike. So I started riding my bike and suddenly I find myself at sears/jcpenny/some department store. But the weird thing was, is that the store was practically empty except for the store clerks. Anyway, I was still on my bike and I rode around the store, but I found myself riding faster until I run into a bunch of clothes. One of the clerks saw me and I said I was sorry. Then she offered to hide my bike as she cleaned up the mess. But she hid my bike in a blatant spot near the register. Soon, people from my school flood the store and the clerk who helped me told me to help her out. She wanted me chat online with someone. It was really weird at this part. Because the person I was supposedly chatting with claimed that he/she was a computer that wants to take over the world. I kinda freaked out and I thanked the lady for “hiding” my bike. Then I saw one of my friend’s head in the bushes. But for a strange reason, I disregarded it. I start to walk aimlessly until I remembered I had my bike. I started to push my bike harder but for some reason it wouldn’t really move. Well, it did move, but ridiculously slowly. No matter how hard I pushed my bike it wouldn’t go any faster. Then there was a little slope so, the bike moved a bit faster, and that was my chance to jump on my bike and pedal. Which I tried, but failed because the bike just slowed down again and continued its slow pace… then I woke up.

I just got a new Diamondback Sorento mountain bike but never had a bike with gears…used to get cycle bikes

how the hell are you supposed to use the gears..
i have a slight idea..but i have no clue..
all i kno is..its a 21 speed
and WHEN am i supposed to change gears..
everytime i do..theres this displeasing crunching sound
like i’m breaking it or something….
is it ok to change while biking…
and will the sound go away when i start to learn how to use the gears properly?

I just wanted some tips from pros who can do wheelies on their mountain bikes. I’m 14 and trying to learn and I need help. All I know so far is that the seat should be high up a bit, and you shift your weight from the front then back to bring up the wheel, but I’d like to know, what gears should I use? My bike has the gear from 1 – 7 and then the friction on the other side from 1 -3 so that would be helpful. Thanks.

When I am riding, especially in gears 6, 7, and 8, they randomly change gears. So when I am standing up and riding, it changes gears and the pedals smack into my leg and I fall farward and crush my chest on my handlebars! It hurts! Does anyone know why it is doing this? I THINK it might have something to do with the barrel adjusters but I am not sure what to do with them, or what they are. So if anyone knows, please can you tell me why and explain what to do?
