I just bought a mountain bike and the sales rep tried to sell me on a bunch of accessories. I refused to buy anything, but I’m curious which items I’ll want to have with me while I’m out on the trails. Could someone please give me a list of must haves that I should get now and also a list of optional items I may want to get eventually?

Must haves:
A bike (duh)
Water bottle and cage/holder
a helment
gloves are great because falling on your hands hurts
sunglasses
The special shorts are great because they are made of spandex and don’t ride up on you.
Saddle bag with spare tube and CO2 inflator (in case of a flat!) and a tire lever.
Optional but really nice to have:
Bike computer
Jerseys
Clipless Pedals and Shoes
Camel baks
That’s all I can think of now.
Good luck
As above.
A side from the safety stuff, ( helmet, gloves, etc) when you go out for a ride:
1) Water bottle or a camel pak
2) If you go on long rides, a saddle pak with:
A) a tire repair kit. (include a way to re-inflate the tire)
B) a multi tool.
C) a short piece of chain and a few master links.
the bike, of course, essential
spare inner tubes, essential
track pump or other pump, essential
bottle holder, optional
bottles,optional
cycle gloves, optional
helmet, essential

you don’t need that much, don’t get conned into buying things you don’t really need.
