mountain bike accessories need help with mountain bike parts!?
hay guys, i have a 2004 hardrock, and i just got Rear Derailleur: Shimano Deore LX SGS &
Front Derailleur: Shimano Deore LX, top-pull. i currently have a truvantive x-flow crank. so my problem is that i have a 7 speed & the derailleur is a 9 speed. can anyone tell if my front crank is compatible for the front derailleurs, and what Cassette Sprockets i can get for 9 spd conversion…my budget is $60 for everything including front crank if i need to change it
i already have the 9spd shifters…i just need to know what type of sprockets i need

I am not a professional cyclist. Myself and my neighbor are purchasing bikes just to ride around the neighborhood every evening for exercise. I like the style of a cruiser, and have always wanted one but am used to a more mountain bike type and like the idea of more than one speed and handle breaks. I found a cruiser at Walmart that has 7 speeds and handle breaks but I also found a nice Next mountain bike. My neighbor already has the Next kind and she loves it. What should I do? I’m torn between the two bikes.

Mountain Bike Gearing?

mountain bike gear Mountain Bike Gearing?
I am about to go buy a new Mountain bike. I havn’t had one in a while. I used to ride allot of trails, and some roads.. I forgot what I had, a iron Horse Point 3 or something. a $1,000 bike or so.

Anyways when I go spend only $500-$700, I want my 29th or 24th gear to be very high. My legs are strong, and I like to cruise fast, but pedaling hard. of course that has to do with the number of teeth on the cassette for that given gear.

When I go look around, what do I look for? I got a cheap mountain bike with X amount of teeth on it’s 21st gear, can I just compare my new bike’s teeth to this cheap one?

I am an amateur at this and my girlfriend and I know we would enjoy it. I want to get something dependable because I know I would attempt to treat it rough. I would like the different speeds and such and I am not sure if I need full suspension or only front. Plus if you could explain the different lingo that goes with shopping for a mountain bike. Thanks
