Are any road pedal cleats compatible with any road shoes?

mountain bike gear Are any road pedal cleats compatible with any road shoes?
I’m switching from mountain biking to road biking and I don’t quite understand road cyclists’ idea of the whole shoes/cleats/pedals interaction.
Say I buy a decent set of pedals, which also come with a set of complementing cleats. Are those cleats compatible with any shoes? I have a pair of Shimano road shoes, and I’m wondering whether the cleat screws are standard?
Thanks.

CYCLISTS – (Pic) What do you think of my new road bike?

mountain bike gear CYCLISTS (Pic) What do you think of my new road bike?
Check pic:

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o197/saintmoi/bicycle.jpg

For those experienced and seasoned riders, what do you think of my new road bike? 2nd hand it was $420 for the bike, shoes, helmet, pedals, computer etc. It’s aluminium, not carbon. It’s a 9 speed.

Your crit would depend on what I use it for. I bought it as I’d like to be a racing demon. There’s a major cycle race, 109km, in March that I want to train for. So I guess it’s not for casual cruises among the flower beds at the park. I want to learn to ride, and fast.

Concerns I have are (as posted previously) :
- the seat anhialates my butt
- I can’t seem to go fast enough on straights
- I can’t go up hills, the smallest gear setting is SO tough
- it might not be the lightest bike, kind of on the heavy side

Did I make a mistake choosing a road bike? A mountain bike with road tyres would be so much safer, easier to control, more familiar. Any thoughts or comments to all of the above?

Thanks :)
re: Seat

I’m 190cm tall, what in N America that’s 6″3? So I guess the seat is naturally high. I’ve taken it down a bit from what it is in that pic. And as much as I’ve tried tilting it forward, when I get on it shifts hack to level. The back doesn’t feel wide enough to meet my ’sit bones’. Those are actually ischial tuberosities for the anatomically inclined ppl. Not the pubic bones. The pubic bones are getting punished at the moment. Think I need a wider back, even if it means getting a MTB seat.

Mountain and road bike question?

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Hey yahoologans, i have a question about some bikes. First off, i dont know anything about bikes. I tried getting into roadbiking back in 2006 and i never did. I am looking for a mountian bike, and i found a guy on Craigslist who is willing to make a trade plus give me some cash. A mountain bike would be more piratical for me.

Ok, so he has a Raley M60 XL mountain bike. He says it is in good condition and he has owned it for 6 months. He bought it from a guy off of Craigslist who said he had only ridden it about 6 times. The bike doesn’t have any scratches and looks like its in good shape.

I have a Cannondale Caad 8 that i bought in 2006. I have only put about 250 miles on it and its in great shape. It is stock, and i have clip things for my shoes, and a computer. it is 63 cm.

My questions are:
is this a good trade? I am a beginner mountain biker
how much cash should i ask for along with the mountain bike.
is that a good mountain bike and will i be happy with it?
Crap i forgot to add that it is a R700
he told me the mountain bike was an XL frame. He is 6′2. I am 6′4. it should be a match.
and yes i bought it new

Why To Own A Road Bike

This articles gives information on road bikes and figures out why they are popular.

The oldest and most popular form of bikes is the Road Bike. These have been an eye-catcher for people since decades and one can easily find several deals on the internet to buy Vintage Road Bikes. These bikes are popular as they are light weight and have been designed specifically to ride on smooth roads. One can easily sail on a flat road for miles with an ease and speed, which cannot be found in any other bike ride.

Why Are They So Popular

Tires: – The road bikes are swift as they run on thin tires – tires are kept as thin as possible so that the drag produced is minimum. As the friction is minimized, these bikes can attain high speeds within seconds with very little effort. A word of caution – as the amount of friction is lessened on the bike tires; stability of these bikes also comes under scanner. They are less steady as compared to mountain bikes (which depend a lot on stability and road grip due to the terrain on which they are used).

Handlebars: – Propelled by new innovations in road bike design and technology over the last decade, these road bikes have become a treat to watch. The metallic colors and designs often prompt you to stop and have a second look at them. To add style to them, these come with special curved handlebars that give many hand arrangements over long runs. These handlebars also assist the rider to a have a low, smooth riding stance.

Gearing System: – Another astonishing feature about these bikes is the gearing system. In order to provide a relaxing feeling over along distance, most modern bikes have triple chain-rings at the front and around 10 rings on the rear wheel. This allows a huge gear range so that bikes can cope with steep hills and twisting roads. Even the ones used for racing and superior performance employ such gear technology, as high gears are required for faster speeds. Integrated brake levers and gear shifters is another recent advancement that has allowed bikers to change the gear and pull the brakes, both at the same time, with very little movement of hands.

Road Bikes – An Asset to Own

With the amount of work, money and time being invested in road bike technology, it is an investment to look out for. If someone has not driven these latest bikes, that person is certainly missing something in his life.

Why The Ugliness Of Cycling Shorts Is Surpassed Only By Their Importance

Non-riders have a tendency to laugh at the shiny, often gaudy cycling clothes worn by even casual bicyclists, but if they rode even a few miles, they would understand that cycling shorts are second only to a helmet in crucial importance to the rider.

Do road biking shoes have 2 screws?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

mountain bike gear Do road biking shoes have 2 screws?
I just bought a road bike and it came with pedals and cleats. The cleats use 2 screws side by side to mount to shoes. I was told these would work with any “bike” shoes. So I bought some road biking shoes only to find out that the shoes have 3 screw holes speard out in triangle shape. If I try to attach cleats only 1 of the screws would fit.
So my questions are,
Are there road biking shoes with the 2 side by side screws, or is this only available in mountain bike shoes?
Will it work to just use the 1 screw in the middle screw hole, or would that mess up my pedal stroke?

my cleats look like ones here
