I am not a professional cyclist. Myself and my neighbor are purchasing bikes just to ride around the neighborhood every evening for exercise. I like the style of a cruiser, and have always wanted one but am used to a more mountain bike type and like the idea of more than one speed and handle breaks. I found a cruiser at Walmart that has 7 speeds and handle breaks but I also found a nice Next mountain bike. My neighbor already has the Next kind and she loves it. What should I do? I’m torn between the two bikes.

go with mountain bike it is more versatile, and if you decide to go do some trail riding you will be all set
cruiser bike is not meant for exercise period
Go to a bike shop and get a quality machine assembled and tuned up well by a pro.
Worth the extra dough.
The mountain bike would be more versatile if you started liking it and decided to ride more.
I now ride only recumbent trikes myself. The comfort is grand. It is like a rocket propelled lawn chair. They may be too pricey for your taste though. try actionbent.com for the best deals in recumbent bikes.
I have a Trek mountain bike and a vintage schwinn collegiate “beach cruiser” from the 1970’s. I live in an area that I can shop close by and I often ride my bike to save on gas. I find myself taking the cruiser out more than the mountain bike, as it has a more comfortable seat. Even though it is a heavier bicycle, it is more fun to ride.
If I were to go on trails or more rugged terrain, I’d go with the mountain bike though.
Based on what you say you want to use it for, I think a hybrid is the best kind of bike for you. Hybrids look similar to mountain bikes (similar riding position), but have slightly skinnier tires, which means less rolling resistance on roads. They can be used for trails as well (depending on the model), but really are best for around town and fitness rides.
If you do plan to ride non-paved trails regularly, then the mountain bikes is probably right for you.
I see no real reason to go for the cruiser.
moutain bike dude there so fast and hits jumps pretty high ha well i gotta a haro but i do stuff with it
The name says is all on the Cruiser. It’s really hard to get up hills on them because of your sitting position so I would avoid it if you have steep terrain nearby.
If you’re riding for fitness you’d get more from a mountain or hybrid bike.
Plus walmart bikes aren’t the best quality.
